Helen Rose Hayes Watkins, age 83, of Lumberton, NC passed away at her home on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Helen was born in Robeson County on January 15, 1941 to the late Douglas and Dezzie Bodiford Hayes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Watkins III; son, James Watkins IV; daughter, Angela Taylor; granddaughter, Crystal Hester; brothers, D.C. Hayes and Marvin "Shorty" Hayes; and sisters, Sarah Bass and Nettie Rae Brown.

Helen loved watching birds, growing flowers, working cross-word puzzles, and playing with her grandchildren. Helen was known as "Grandma" to many in the community.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Watkins; grandchildren: Doug, Jason, and Toni Nicole; and great-grandchildren: Craven, Braxton, Abby, Sabastian, Jacob, Nicholas, Jenna, and Jonathan.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Floyd Memory Gardens, 3720 Old Whiteville Road, Lumberton, NC 28358.
