Hannelore Charlotte
Oxendine
Apr 17, 1932 — Feb 12, 2024
Camas
Hannelore Charlotte Oxendine, born in Berlin, Germany in 1932 to Kurt and Irmgard Hetzger, passed away in Camas, Washington on February 12, 2024. Hannah enjoyed a long and interesting life before succumbing to the maladies associated with advanced age.
Hannah met her Air Force husband Winston ("Ox") in Berlin in 1947 and they were loving and devoted partners until his death in 2011. After surviving the ravages of war-torn Germany, Hannah was pleased to become an all-American girl and happily embraced the United States as her home country.
Hannah could be considered a force of nature and she will be missed greatly. Hannah was industrious and excelled at many things, including homemaker, dental assistant, seamstress, housekeeper and newspaper delivery person. Hannah and Ox partnered with their daughter Ramona to operate a successful travel agency in Fairbanks, Alaska. Hannah and Ox enjoyed many travel opportunities, visiting locations worldwide. Hannah was a member of the German Club in Fairbanks until retirement to Fairmont, North Carolina and subsequent move to Marysville, Washington. Hannah and Ox volunteered at rest stations in Washington state that provided travelers with snacks and clean facilities. Hannah was an award-winning gardener and she tended her landscaping without assistance well into her eighties.
Hannah lived with and was cared for in the final years of life by her daughter Ramona and her spouse Bobette McKirgan. Hannah is survived by her children: Jesse Oxendine of Anchorage, Alaska; Ramona Oxendine of Washougal, Washington; Gordon Oxendine of Bonney Lake, Washington; and Tina Oxendine of Mountlake Terrace, Washington. Hannah's legacy lives on in her grandchildren: Nathan Damario, Sarah Labbe, Megan Bean, Gordon Oxendine, Jr., Hannah Oxendine and Jesse Oxendine; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Eva Mae Shull of Fairmont, North Carolina.
A special thank you to Tamara and the staff at Camas View Senior Care for the exceptional care they provided to our mother. Charitable donations or positive thoughts are equally appreciated. Should you wish to donate to an agency in memory of Hannah, she contributed to food banks and animal care associations.
Hannah will be laid to rest next to her husband in the New Bethel Holiness-Methodist Church Cemetery, 3396 Iona Church Road in Fairmont, North Carolina on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Gary Deese officiating. Final arrangements were managed by Straub's Funeral Home in Camas, Washington and Floyd Funeral Services, Inc. in Fairmont, North Carolina.
