Obituary

Gregory Price, of Lumberton, NC, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026.

In addition to his parents, Gregory was preceded in death by his beloved son, Sean Gregory Price of Lillington, and his half-brother, David Clio Taylor Jr. of Fayetteville.

Gregory was born in Lumberton on June 4, 1948, to the late William Lloyd Price, Jr. and Sarah Dean Price (Taylor), the eldest of their two children. After graduating from Lumberton High School, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1971. He later completed his civil engineering studies at Fayetteville Tech and worked for Concrete Services and the Army Corps of Engineers in Fayetteville. After returning to Lumberton, he joined the North Carolina Department of Transportation as an inspector, where he worked until his retirement.

Gregory was known for his infectious smile, his deep love of family and friends, and his lifelong passion for learning and discovery. One of Gregory's greatest strengths was the enduring friendships he formed and maintained throughout his life, including the friends who joined him on his annual fishing trip to Portsmouth Island. Teaching his sons the value of long-lasting relationships was a point of immense pride for him, and he was richly rewarded by the dedicated friends who stood by him through every stage of life.

Through 40 years of marriage, Gregory was a devoted and supportive husband to Henrietta. He loved traveling with her and championed her love of animals. Together they took several cross-country road trips to visit Henrietta's sister, Mary Carol, in Houston, Texas, taking time along the way to explore and learn about their country. In his later years, he adored his three grandchildren, cherishing every hug, smile, cuddle, laugh, and sweet moment he spent with them. Above all else, Gregory was a committed and inspiring father to his three sons, Sean, Geoffrey, and Carlton; volunteering in sports and scouting, attending every practice, game, and scout trip he possibly could, and working tirelessly to support his family while being the example they will forever aspire to exemplify.

Gregory is survived by his loving wife, Henrietta of Lumberton; his son, Geoffrey Scot Price and wife Michelle, and their son Cameron of Wilmington; his son, Carlton Barnes Price and wife Grace, and their children, Eliza Dean and Rick of Mooresville; his brother, Michael Price of Fayetteville and Michael's sons, Christopher and Stephen; his half-sisters, Peggy Taylor of Lumberton and her daughter, Kaitlin Thomas and Pamela Price of Wilmington; his half-brothers, William Price III of Wilmington, Mark Price and wife Tammy of Monroe, and Mitchell Price and wife Jamie of Cookeville, Tennessee; and his sister-in-law, Mary Carol Warwick of Lumberton.
