Georgia Ferguson
Stamper
Nov 1, 1934 — Nov 20, 2023
Lumberton
Georgia Carroll Stamper, 89, of Lumberton, NC went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, November 20, 2023 at her home in Lumberton, NC.
Georgia was born in Genoa, WV at the family home on November 1st, 1934, the 1st child and only daughter of 4 children born to Taylor and Elsie Ferguson.
She grew up in the hollers of West Virginia, where she placed her faith in Jesus Christ at a young age in a small Baptist church with a swinging bridge in Genoa, WV. She was baptized there in the creek. Later in life, she would have a hand in leading her husband, Bernie, to the Lord in Columbus, Ohio.
Georgia had a true servant's heart all of her life and was very giving. She served the Lord in many areas. She was a kindergarten teacher at North Trenholm in Columbia, SC. While at North Trenholm Baptist Church she fixed meals on Tuesday night for visitation, was a Sunday School teacher, a VBS volunteer, and worked in the Youth Department. Later, she also served in many areas at First Baptist Lumberton including on the Bereavement team, filling plates for BBQ fundraisers (which was the last event she helped with right before she passed), passing out candy at Trunk or Treats, and in many other areas of servanthood.
Georgia worked several jobs in her life but the two that gave her so much fulfillment were running a daycare in her home while living in Columbia, SC, where she loved the children in her care as her own, and her 34 year career as a Real Estate Agent for Century 21.
Georgia was very passionate about being a real estate agent and accomplished so much in her field. She won many awards including the highest award of Centurion for Century 21. Other awards which she won multiple times were the Diamond, Ruby, and Emerald awards. She helped so many become homeowners. At one time she was ranked in the top 30 real estate agents in North Carolina for Century 21. Georgia would have told you that none of her accomplishments were her own, but rather the result of the Lord working in her life. If you knew our Mom, then you got a pen (maybe multiple pens) and a calendar, which she mailed out every year.
When she was not working, she enjoyed watching basketball, Gamecock basketball was a favorite, as she played basketball in high school. She also enjoyed sewing for children, cooking, and working in her flowers.
Georgia is survived by her 4 children, Wendy Stamper Oxendine of Fairmont, NC; Henry Stamper of Batesburg, SC; Mike Stamper (Stacie) of Rocky Mount, NC; and Mark Stamper (Amanda) of Lewisville, NC; her grandchildren Corey Stamper (Carly), Haley Stamper Wright (Richard), Taylor Stamper, and Elise Stamper; her great grandchildren, Ryland McKelvey and Arlo Stamper; and 2 brothers Marion "Pete" Ferguson of Hurricane WV and Perry Ferguson (Janet) of West Union, WV.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Bernard Stamper; her father, Taylor Ferguson; her mother Elsie Ferguson; her brother Milan Ferguson, and daughter-in-law, Susan Stamper.
A celebration of Georgia's life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 606 N. Walnut Street in Lumberton, NC with Rev. Josh Owens, Rev. Henry Stamper, Mark Stamper, and Rev. Mike Stamper officiating. The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: First Baptist Church of Lumberton General Fund, 606 N. Walnut Street, Lumberton, NC 28358.
