Obituary

George Clegg Ward, Jr., age 90, of Lumberton, NC, went to his heavenly home Monday, January 5, 2026, at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC surrounded by family. He was born on January 14, 1935 to the late George C. Ward, Sr. and Mary Lillie Dallas Ward.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John David Ward.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lucille Dalton Ward; his sons, Randy Ward (Sandra) of Clinton, NC and Michael Ward (Nancy) of Lumberton, NC; two grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Leviner Smith of Virginia and Diane May (Jim) of Colorado.

George was a longtime member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Lumberton, NC where he served for years as a dedicated deacon, secretary treasurer, and Sunday School teacher. He was also a retired volunteer fireman with the Allenton Fire Department.

He owned and operated George's Barbershop for 70 years and will be remembered for his dedicated service to his community. He served many families with good haircuts for over four generations. He would often comment "Where else can a man go get a good haircut and listen to good gospel music and preaching?" He was honored to have been named among the top 10 barbershops in Lumberton. George said as long as the Lord gave him strength and as long as someone would get in the chair, he would continue to cut hair. The Lord granted his request and he was blessed to have been able to cut hair up until June 2025. He had a love for nature and spending time hunting and fishing. But, above all, George loved to meet new people and share his love of Jesus and advise them of their need for a Savior.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 12:30-2:00 PM at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 812 E. 5th Street in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM with Pastor Anthony Rich and Rev. John Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow at Floyd Memory Gardens, 3720 Old Whiteville Road in Lumberton, NC.
