Gary Edward Mangum, 65, of Lumberton, NC, died Saturday, October 12, 2024, at his home.

He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Journalism Degree and spent 45 years covering sports, designing pages, and writing for many papers such as the City View Magazine in Fayetteville, NC, Tribune Star in Terre Haute, IN, St. Petersburg Times in St. Petersburg, Fla., Orlando Sun in Orlando Fla., Greenville News in South Carolina, Fayetteville Observer in Fayetteville, NC, and Commercial Appeal in Memphis, TN.

He received many awards - too many to list - but, most recently, he won 1st place from the NC Press Association for News, Editorial and Photo Journalism.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bonnie Mangum.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Mangum of the home; four children and their families; a brother, Michael (Connie) Mangum of Hope Mills, NC; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. Fifth St.,  Lumberton, NC, 28358.
