George Fred Townsend, age 81, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017. He was born April 28, 1936 in Robeson County to the late Lester & Agnes Carroll Townsend. He was a veteran of the US Army and was later employed with Coastal Trucking Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Lester Townsend and Neil Townsend.

He is survived by his wife Maxine Lee Townsend of the home; his children: Dalery Fred Townsend and wife Crystal of Lumberton and Sharon Townsend Cagle and husband Danny of Lumberton; four grandchildren: Daniel Craig Cagle, Christopher Dale Townsend and wife Amy, Taylor Eugene Townsend, and Mason Thomas Parnell; two great-grandchildren: Caden Daniel Cagle and Kaleigh Grace Cagle; three brothers: Henry Arthur Townsend of Clayton, Carroll Franklin Townsend of Buie, and James Patrick Townsend of Ashe; one sister, Emma Townsend Davis of Proctorville; and a special sister-in-law, Joann Lee Edwards of Lumberton.

A time of visitation will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at 3:00 PM at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Gary Strickland, Rev. Norman Smith, and Rev. Brett Young officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
