Elwood West, Sr., age 77, of Lumberton, NC passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. He was born in Robeson County, NC on August 6, 1937 to the late Bernice and Annie Stanley West. He previously worked in textiles in the parts department. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Brenda Walters West; brothers, Bobby West and J.W. Wiggins; and a sister Lennie Ruth West Smith. Mr. West is survived by his sons, Edwin West (Elizabeth) of Sims, Ricky West (Kim) of Currie, Dennis West (Lucille) of Atkinson, and Elwood West, Jr. (Kim) of Lumberton; daughters, Audrey West and Bobbie Lynn West of Lumberton; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; his brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Long Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Brett Young and Rev. Jim Seaman officiating. Burial will follow in the West Family Cemetery in Lumberton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Joy Group of Long Branch Baptist Church, 8878 Hwy NC 72 E., Lumberton, NC 28358.
