Ms. Evelyn Oxendine Freeman, age 91, of Lumberton NC and formerly of Fairmont, NC went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 23, 2023 at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC. She was born September 20, 1931 to the late Claudius Oxendine and the late Ella Mae Sampson Oxendine.

Ms. Evelyn worked at Converse Shoe Co. for many years and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She attended Fairpoint Free Will Baptist Church before her declining health. She loved her family dearly, her neighbors on Fairgrove Rd. and her church family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Prather C. Freeman; one son, James C. Freeman; three daughters, Ann Marie Freeman, Genevieve Freeman and Lena Mae Baldwin; three grandsons, Jonathan Hunt, Curtis Ray Freeman, Jr. and James C. Freeman, Jr; five brothers, Henry W. Oxendine, Lacy Locklear, Barney Oxendine, Willie W. Oxendine, and Julius Oxendine; three sisters, Annie Hazel Oxendine, Eunice Locklear, and Mildred Sampson.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Curtis Ray Freeman of Fairmont, NC; four daughters, Gertrude Hunt and Clementine Hunt (Mickey) both of Lumberton, NC, Ella Mae Hunt (Phillip) of Fairmont, NC and Darlene Freeman Rodriguez of Apex, NC; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Mike Oxendine; special nieces, Alice Hunt and Cynthia Martin and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Wednesday night, April 26, 2023 from 6-8PM at Floyd Funeral Services 1549 Marion Stage Rd. Fairmont, NC. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 2 PM at Fairpoint Free Will Baptist Church 1862 Marion Stage Rd. Fairmont, NC. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery 198 Pleasant View Rd. Fairmont, NC.
