Eugene McRae Pait, affectionately known as "Squirrel", 84, of Lumberton, NC, died Thursday, December 16, 2021, at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC. He was born in Bladen County, NC on October 29, 1937 to the late Lonnie Pait and the late Mittie Kinlaw Pait. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was later employed with TR Driscoll, Inc. until retirement.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Anita Pait; twin grandsons, Cameron Blake Pait and Corey Blane Pait; a daughter, Sandy Baxley; two brothers, Ernest Pait and Cleo Pait; and sisters: Eunice Carroll, Annie Bell Perkins, Agnes Taylor, Mary Lillie Pait, Elene Storms, Tillie Ruth Michael, Beulah Jeanette Pait, and Peggy Sue LaBelle.

He is survived by a son, Jeff Pait of Lumberton, NC; two sisters, Leona Ellis of Little Rock, AR and Murelette Pallo (Tom) of Hughesville, MD; and two granddaughters, Alyssa Brooke Pait and Alexis Brianna Baxley.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Floyd Memory Gardens, 3720 Old Whiteville Road in Lumberton, NC, with Pastor Michael Bowen officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends and loved ones at the graveside.
