Mrs. Elsie Oliver Currie, 99, of Lumberton, NC, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, at her home. She was born in Robeson County, NC on April 17, 1923 to the late Clayton & Leila Smith Oliver.

Elsie was known for her love for her family, her love for her Maker, and could often be found reading or playing the piano early on Saturday mornings.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Currie, Sr.; her son, Robert "Bob" L. Currie, Jr.; her brothers: Robert S. Oliver, William Herman Oliver, and John Clayton Oliver; her sister, Elizabeth Oliver; and her grandson, James Lee Currie.

She is survived by her sons, William O. Currie (Doris) and John A. Currie (Patsy), both of Lumberton, NC; her daughter, Nancy C. Pittman (Larry) of Lumberton, NC; her daughter-in-law, Laurie F. Currie of Lumberton, NC; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Thomas Smith Oliver of Charlotte, NC.

The family would also like to extend a special thanks to her special caregiver, Phyllis Chavis of Lumberton, NC.

The graveside committal will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Meadowbrook Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 1002 N. Chestnut Street in Lumberton, NC, with Rev. David & Rev. Eva Ruth officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends and loved ones for a time of visitation at the church.

In lieu of flowers, her family has asked for friends and acquaintances to make a donation to any charity of their choice.
