Elmer Holmes, age 93, of Lumberton, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. He was born August 17, 1924 in Robeson County to the late Grady & Arrie Callahan Holmes. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and the US Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Saphronia Sampson Holmes; his wife, Leata Greene Holmes; and four brothers: Leo Holmes, Craven Holmes, Kenneth "Billy" Holmes, and Max Holmes.

He is survived by his children: Christopher Wayne Holmes of California, MD, Geraldine "Gerry" Holmes of Waxhaw, NC, and Russell Holmes of Great Mills, MD; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one sister, Frances Averitt of Lumberton; and multiple nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will take place prior to the service on Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc.

Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM in the Chapel with Rev. Rick Astle officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton.
