Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy M. Strawcutter passed away peacefully in her sleep this past Saturday night, October 20, 2018, in the presence of her son, Grant, and in the good care of Wesley Pines Skilled Nursing Department. She was born April 12, 1922 in Maysville, NC to parents, the late Matthew Thomas Mills and the late Annie Bell Collins Mills and grew up in Beaufort and Morehead City, NC.

She was very supportive to her husband of fifty-five years, Howard E. Strawcutter, MD, who practiced urology in Lumberton for over thirty-five years and later served as Medical Director of the Robeson County Jail for over ten years before retiring in 2003. They met while he was a student at Jefferson Medical School and she was working in Philadelphia.  She could recall her time working as a secretary for the US Department of Labor during World War II and living across from the German Embassy both in Washington, DC. She was active in her church, the First Presbyterian Church of Lumberton, and in the medical auxiliary. She was recognized for her twenty years of volunteer service in the recovery room of Southeastern General Medical Center.

Dorothy was first and foremost a mother and homemaker to her children, Tommy (deceased), Andrew (Philip), Grant (Marc), and Suzanne Grossman (Rob); she was the sister of Marion Mills (Dot) and Ann McRoberts (John); grandmother of Tommy Talbot (Kristina), Tyler Talbot (Darcy) and Katelin Talbot; and great-grandmother of Kinsley.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, from 1:00-2:00PM at First Presbyterian Church in Lumberton.

A memorial service will follow the visitation on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at 2:00PM with Pastor David Ruth officiating.
