Dorothy Bell Britt Sessoms Stewart, age 100, formerly of Lumberton, NC, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC. Dorothy was born March 5, 1921 in Robeson County, NC to the late Andrew and Eloise Walters Britt. She was a graduate of Rowland High School and was a retired Sales Associate with JCPenney. Dorothy was the oldest of 9 children.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Chappell Sessoms, in 1967 and her second husband, Robert Stewart, in 2014. Also, preceding her in death was her only daughter, Jeanette Sessoms Poston; her oldest granddaughter, Dawn Poston Bingham; her brothers: Robert Britt, Ralph Britt, and Pitman Britt; and three sisters: Elsie Kinlaw, Dale Smith, and Vashti Musselwhite.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Inez Smith and Eloise Talley; a granddaughter, Ronda Benfield (Randy); a grandson, Donald Edward Poston II; and beloved great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Lumberton, NC with Rev. LeRoy Burke officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends for a time of visitation and fellowship in the church sanctuary.
