Mrs. Dorothy Lewis, age 87, of Fairmont, NC, was born May 31, 1935 and left her earthly home for her Heavenly home on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Sanderson and Delilah Brewer Sanderson; her husband, Robert Lavon "Bob" Lewis; three sisters: Geneva Sue Locklear, Brenda Hunt, and Edith Sanderson Dial; three brothers: Theodore, Gilbert, and Kinston "Kenny" Sanderson; a nephew, Prentice Houston Dial; and a niece, Tina Marie Sanderson.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories two sons, ("Boatman") Bobby Lavon Lewis of the home and Harry Keith Spaulding and girlfriend Alpana Oxendine of Marshville, NC; a daughter, Edwina Lynn  Lewis of Lumberton, NC; two sisters, Mary Ruth Spaulding and Sandra Webb, both of Fairmont, NC; two brothers, Jimmy Sanderson and wife Dorothy and Renwick Sanderson and wife Lorinda, all of Fairmont, NC; two grandchildren, Keith Jr. and  Brandon Spaulding; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Devan Spaulding; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Dorothy was a stay-at-home wife and mother for years while living in Stafford, VA. She also did some self-employment babysitting until the family moved back home to Robeson County in 1980. She then sought employment in various textile plants until she retired at the age of 70. She then became the caretaker of family member Gladys Barnes until she passed away in 2007. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and taking care of family needs. She was a one-of-a-kind, sweet mother. Her signature dish was making pound cakes for family gatherings. She attended New Bethel Holiness Methodist Church before becoming home bound.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 3pm at New Bethel Holiness Methodist Church Cemetery, 3396 Iona Church Road in Fairmont, NC.
