Obituary

Doris Floyd, 94, departed her earthly life on Sunday, September 4, 2022, with her family by her side in these most recent days. She lived a full and fruitful life as a daughter of Mack and Frances Turner of Fairmont, NC. She was a sister to six sisters, a mother to four children, grandmother to nine, and a great-grandmother to twelve.

Doris was a Registered Nurse, trained in the Baker-Thompson Hospital (1946-1949) – now UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, NC. Doris enjoyed her years of nursing which ranged in service with doctor's offices in Newport News, VA to private duty nursing in the early 1960's in Lumberton, NC and then continued into hospital services, primarily the third shift duty.  She completed her nursing career with geriatric nursing with Wesley Pines in the mid-1980's.

Doris and Sam were partners in establishing and fulfilling a life dream of Sam's to return to Lumberton, his hometown, and starting the business of electrical contracting, Robeson Electric Company. Doris held many positions with the business for many years until the business transferred to their son, Jack Floyd. Prior to Sam's death in 1989, Doris and Sam traveled and began a hobby of raising miniature horses. They traveled all over the U.S. for special shows and sales of horses. One of the joys and highlights of her life was supporting Sam in his endeavor to reunite his Army company from WWII – as close as the brotherhood of these servicemen, their spouses developed a similar comradery amongst themselves.

Doris has spent her years since Sam's death being fully engaged in numerous activities from group traveling all over the U.S. and cruising trips to Alaska and the Mediterranean. She created a bridge club in 1990 for widows and widowers. Many of these club members continued a regular gathering and she would often recall some of the "best" hands of cards in a game.

Doris leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Nancy Langford, Martha Goodson (Paul), Kathy Page, and Jack Floyd (Angie); and her grandchildren: Mike Langford (Angela), Matt Langford (Brendan Bush), Elizabeth Goodson, Kathryn Wright (Dave), Grant Page (Katrina), Mitchell Page (Kayla), Mandy Smith (Jason), Drew Floyd (Abbey), and Justin Taylor (Jessica). In addition, the great-grandchildren are Maya and Leigh Langford, Sara, Sam, and Sadie Smith, Noel and Ella Page, Savannah June Floyd, Ryker and Marlowe Page, and Jace and Joel Taylor. Also, she is survived by two sisters, Sarah Almblad and Clementine Maynard (Raoul), and brothers-in-law: Rufus Outland, Rudolph Floyd (Betty), and Charlie Floyd (Melba),  plus a host of nieces and nephews.

Doris was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 50 years, and her sisters: Dora McDonald, Mirra Smith, Maxie Leigh, and Janice Outland.
