Obituary

Deloris Chavis Mangum, age 72, was welcomed into her savior's arms on Thursday, February 10th, 2022 at her home in Lumberton. She was born on October 29, 1949 to the late Sam Chavis and the late Audia Hunt Chavis.

Deloris "Lois" graduated from Fairgrove High School in 1968. She then attended Southeastern Community College for two years. In 1971 she moved to High Point, North Carolina where she lived with her siblings while she worked as a secretary along side with her brother Wilson and also at Rozaine's Clothing Boutique. In 1973 she gave birth to her daughter, Audra and then moved back to Robeson County in 1976 where she became manager of the credit and catalog department at JC Penney. She was well known for her unique ability to gift wrap. Lois loved going to NASCAR races with her family to cheer for her favorites, Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, and Dale Earnhardt. She enjoyed shopping every weekend even if that meant just going to "Wally World"(Walmart). Deloris also cared deeply for her great grands whom she spoiled with gifts as much as she could. Lastly, Lois was best known to the community simply as, Ms. D. for her delicious homemade candy.

In addition to her parents Lois was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson Chavis and Jerry Wayne Chavis; two sisters, Marvie Lou Sampson and Annie Lee Chavis.

She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Audra Chavis of the home; one brother, Willard "Bo" Chavis and wife Mary Lois of Shannon, NC; three sisters, Lou Anner Greenway and husband Kenneth of Fairmont, NC, Sharma Carter and husband Luther "Bud" of Fairmont, NC and Regina Hardin and husband Jerry of Fairmont, NC; one grandson, Justin Lorenzo Chavis and partner Meghan of Lumberton;, three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Harmony and Malachi; her fur baby Cocoa; two loving caregivers, Rose Bullard and Melesa Chavis; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

To our mother and grandmother, We love you more than words could ever tell. A piece of our heart will forever be missing. Your love was unconditional and your hugs could cure all. There will not be a day that goes by that we will not miss you. We're not sure how to go through this life without you, but you taught us to never give up and to keep fighting and that is exactly what we will do. We love you with all our hearts. Always and forever. Your little girl and loving grandson.
