Obituary

David Myron McGuirt was born July 25, 1943, in Olanta, SC. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by love on Friday, October 1, 2021.

David spent the first years of his life on a farm in Olanta, SC. At the age of six, his family moved to Charlotte, NC where he grew up and lived until graduating from Garinger High School. He attended UNC Charlotte the first year it was opened. David was a good student and, as a teenager, always stayed involved in scouting and served as a minister for youth at his church. Many summers were spent working on the family farm in Olanta and, while attending school, he worked as an usher at the Coliseum near his home in Charlotte.

His first career took him to Chicago as an executive at a major furniture manufacturer. While there, he received his draft notice and decided to become a proud Marine. After six years of service, he returned to Charlotte to begin a career in the industry that would last his lifetime; at a young age, his independent and entrepreneurial spirit would not allow him to work for anyone else again.

He became a respected figure in the HVAC industry serving as a board member for the International Compressor Remanufacturing Association for many years. In 1998, he married Janice, moved to Lumberton, and began a new business, Service Compressor Parts. He also became a beloved member of his community and his church, First Presbyterian, where he served as a Cub Scout leader for Troop 301. International travel was a matter of routine for him, traveling to China 22 times, along with many other countries around the world.

Travel was just one of the many joys he shared with his family. He also loved to dance with his wife, spend time with his children, and play, as well as watch, the game of golf. He was lucky enough to play St. Andrews and Pebble Beach with his youngest son. David was a wonderful husband, father, and friend and a well-respected employer. Always quietly patient and kind, he was a truly humble gentleman with a generous soul.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Valorie McElveen McGuirt Johnson and Albert Wilson McGuirt, and a brother, Samuel Denham McGuirt.

David leaves behind his wife, Janice, and four sons: David (Kelly), Todd, Jordan, and Wilson; a sister-in-law, Judy Craft (Plummer); a niece, Dana Boggs (Tommy), and nephew, Shane McGuirt (Pam); and many cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews, along with extended family and friends who loved him.

David also leaves behind his Compressor Parts family: Grady Oxendine, Ron Brown, Nelson Melvin, Sahed Krisch, Karen Chavis, Clinton Koone, and John Moore.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church Lumberton, 1002 N. Chestnut Street in Lumberton, NC. A time of visitation will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the compassionate caregivers of Liberty Hospice: Paula, Brandi, Shauntay, and Rhonda. You are all truly "living angels". We would also like to thank our friends, family, and our church family for the many kind gestures of care and support in our time of loss. God has truly blessed us.
