Embraced in God's love, David Richard McDonald, age 88, of Lumberton, departed this earthly life to enter eternal rest on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.  He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on September 10, 1929.

David was a US Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War.  He attended Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. David also minored in Music and trained in Classical Piano. He played a variety of piano literature from classical to modern composers, including Chopin, Schubert, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Schumann, to name a few.  David was a prolific writer, as well, from his prose to his many books, as well as his musical compositions and lyrics. In addition to his love of music, David was an avid bicyclist, enjoyed the outdoors (especially the beach), and had a wonderful sense of humor.

David relocated from Washington, D.C. to Lumberton, NC in 2002 and became a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. There he served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister.

David leaves fond memories to be cherished by his four children: Theresa Harrison of Upper Marlboro, MD, Vincent Rene McDonald (Pam) of College Park, MD, Jennifer Karen Oliverio (John) of Beltsville, MD, and Benedict Mark McDonald of College Park, MD; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a very special friend and longtime caregiver, Kathy Trimble of Fairmont, including Kathy's extended family; many St. Francis de Sales friends, as well as many friends and acquaintances throughout Robeson and Cumberland Counties.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, from 6:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street, Lumberton.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2017 from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2000 E. Elizabethtown Road in Lumberton.

Following the viewing, a funeral mass will be held at 12:00 PM, also at the church, with Father Zacharie Tati officiating.  Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton at 3198 N.
