David "Bug" Earl Smith, Jr., of Lumberton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, at the age of 69. He was born on April 9, 1955 to the late David Lee Smith and Maggie Smith. David will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for his community. David had a profound impact on all who knew him and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.

His legacy of compassion and generosity will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Along with his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, James Haywood Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Maggie Smith. His wife, Jeanette Smith. His children; Kay Robinson (Randy) , Lewis Hayes (Ann), David McLean (Tasha), Tyquan Hayes, Lenise Hayes, Toecia Watts (Kenneth), Vernita Sinclair, Davida Smith (Shyheim) and Shawn Smith (Juanita). As well as his siblings; Ricky Smith, Wayne Smith (Paula), Wendell Smith, Charles Smith, Doris Baxley (Thomas), Saundra Smith, Sarah Regan, and Lee Moore, all of Lumberton, North Carolina; as well as 27 grandchildren and a special nephew, Robert Hammonds.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Blanks Cemetery in Lumberton, NC.
