Obituary

Mrs. Tina Bartley passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 19, 2021. She was born on August 12th, 1929. The sixth of ten children born to Carl and Florence Carter Clark.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry (Hank) Aldrich Bartley; five sisters, Annie Lou Hunt, Cordia Val Jones, Aulitha Jacobs, Patricia Hunt, and Janice Davis; and two brothers, Adnel Clark and Carlton Clark.

Tina is survived by sisters, Gladys Kearns of Fairmont, NC and Sonjah Ruth Schumacher of Palmer, AK; a stepson, Donald Bartley of New Providence, RI; three special nieces, Jackie Kearns of Fairmont, Joan E. Tyner (Barry) of Raeford, NC, and Carole Cargill  (Richmond) of Assonet, MA; two incredibly special nephews, Gary Kearns (Betty) of Lumberton, NC and Helmut Clark of Godwin, NC; two loving grand nephews, Carlos R. Tyler ( Angela) of Fairmont, NC and Rando J Tyler ( Marie) of Raeford, NC; a dear feline friend " Whiskers''; her family is indebted to the loving caregivers, Francis Locklear, Barbara Lowry, Jan Woodell, Jessie Hunt, Ella Wilkins, and Jacqueline Hunt; a most dear family friend, Jerry Webb and children Wesley (whom Tina loved and cared for in his early years), Korey and Brittany; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Tina left Fairmont, NC at the age of 29 to join the Women's Army Corps (WAC). She enlisted on March 27, 1959, and was honorably discharged on March 2, 1962. She shared with family that "God led her to join the WAC so as to meet her husband Hank which she did while stationed in San Antonio, TX. They were married on July 21, 1961.

While serving in the WAC, Tina was trained as an Administrative assistant and performed in a variety of clerical positions. She excelled in her typing skills so much that she finished her work assignments in advance of her co-workers. This allowed her to have her weekends off. She relished with joy telling the stories of how her co-workers spent so much time drinking coffee and gossiping that when Fridays came they were way behind on their work and were often required to work the weekends while she played. Throughout Tina's life she was focused and most successful at accomplishing whatever she undertook. She envisioned she was always working for God not man and this greatly pleased her.

The legacy she left to her sister Gladys's children and others is that one should always do their best to serve God for in the end you must account only to God. Tina was an excellent seamstress and embroiderer. She cherished making baby blankets for many family members. Upon Hank's military retirement they settled in Fayetteville, NC. Tina specialized in cooking gourmet meals. Many of Hank's military friends would find their way to The Bartley home to visit and enjoy Tina's fine home cooking. Tina complimented her cooking by planting and harvesting the vegetables from her own backyard garden. She too had a passion for puzzles and word games that helped her when her health no longer allowed for such cooking and gardening

Tina always found time to visit with her beloved sister Gladys whom she genuinely loved and looked up to with dear admiration. This bond was formed growing up in their youth together on the farm in Fairmont, NC. In the latter years as Tina's health began declining, Gladys and daughter Jackie were constantly at her side visiting and caring for whatever Tina needed. They would not have been able to accomplish all that was required without God's loving guidance and the great supporting care of Joan, Gary, Carlos, Rando and Helmut. Tina struggled with her health complications for almost ten years but never once complained. She instead put her faith in God. She would often say, "God takes excellent care of me". If you ever met Tina, you would naturally feel her warmth and kindness and the desire to help and encourage.

Tina was overly humble. She would never stand in the way of others nor harm anyone. She found love to be the greatest gift to share and share she did. She honored God because above all else she knew God was her source of wellbeing. Tina fought the good earthly fight; she finished her course and always kept her faith. She suffers no more. The family will forever miss her, but we know she is rejoicing with all the Angels in Heaven and in God's hands. She is now at peace. We give thanks to God for always caring for Tina and each of you who came to love her as we do.
