Charles Russell Owings, 82 years old, husband of Frances Timmerman Owings, died May 2, 2015 at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. Born in Greenwood, SC in 1932, he was the son of the late W.D. Owings and Mary Elizabeth Owings of Greenwood. He attended Clemson University, majoring in Industrial Management and received a B.S. in Business Administration from Lander College in Greenwood. A veteran of the US Air Force, he served during the Korean War. His career in textiles included positions in management and Industrial Engineering for Greenwood Mills, Kendall Corporation, Gerber Children's Wear, Jasper Textiles, and MJ Soffe in Fayetteville. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 59 years, Frances Timmerman Owings, are two sons, Russell Timmerman Owings and his wife, Darlene of Arrington, VA, Charles Barry Owings and his wife, Lisa of Wilmington; two grandsons, Christopher Charles of Saint Cloud, FL and Seth Chandler of Wilmington; one granddaughter, Mallory Hope of Wilmington, and one great granddaughter, Amber Lynn of Saint Cloud, FL. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Lumberton where services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Dr. David Elks and Rev. Joe Bounds officiating. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM.
