Mr. Charles Herring, age 90, of Lumberton NC passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023, peacefully at home. He was born in Robeson County, NC on May 3, 1933, to the late Preston & Fannie McDaniels Herring.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. After his service to our country, he devoted his life to being a carpenter. He loved building and making things with his hands. He worked well into his 80's, doing smaller jobs and assisting with building wheelchair ramps for those in need through the church. He was a long-time member at Long Branch Baptist Church and served as the custodian for many years. He also serviced on the Building and Grounds Committee for many years.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Herring; his brothers, Kenneth Herring and Vernon Herring; and his sons, Randy Herring and Pete Herring.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Herring of the home; his stepdaughters, Donna Driggers (Darwin) of Raleigh NC and Sharon Lawson (Robert), Lumberton NC; his son, Charles Herring, Jr. (Cheri) of Topeka, KS; his grandchildren: Ben Driggers, Jacob Driggers, Nick Driggers, Brandon Herring, Cody Herring, and Jason Herring; his brothers, Bobby Herring (Jackie) of Fairmont NC and Johnny Herring (Gail) of Orrum NC; and his sisters, Penny Herring Britt (Richard) of Orrum NC and Joy Herring David (Fred) of Ocean Isle, NC.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Long Branch Baptist, 8878 NC Hwy 72 E in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Cole Dellinger and Rev. Jeff Broadwell officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery, 8414 S. Creek Road in Orrum, NC.
