Celeste Dior Smith-Chavious, infant daughter of Shamol James Chavious and Chariti Devyne Smith passed away at Duke Medical Center on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Baby Celeste was born on December 4, 2023 at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC.

Celeste was a beautiful child who touched the lives of many during her short life. Celeste was a "heart warrior" because of a Congenital Heart Disease and she continued to beat the odds until her final moments. She will live on as a bright sunflower in the lives of those who knew and loved her.

Celeste was preceded in death by her grandparents; Lawanna Denise Johnson, L.C. Stevens, and Zebedee Wilcox; and her cousin, Greyson Ray.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her sister; Jada`Rae Surles, and brother; Collin Zakari Smith; her grandparents: Deangila Jenall Johnson, Michael Tyrone Smith, Shonda Michelle Chavious, Cedrick Donnell Shipp, and Dianna Shipp; her great-grandparents: Kennie Ray Johnson, Devie Stevens, Rev. Sandra C. Spell, and Bernice Wilcox; her aunts and uncles: Faith Johnson, Hope Smith, Zyon Smith, Katalina Smith, Louis Rashawn Highsmith, Jamar Wallace, Christopher Shipp, and Quavon Wallace; as well as a host of great-aunts and great-uncles and cousins.
