Obituary

Cathy Mae Walters Foley, age 79, of Lumberton, went to be with her Heavenly Savior on Thursday, June 11, 2026.  She was born in Robeson County, NC on July 25, 1946 to the late Edwin Leonard Walters and the late Catherine Isabel Connor Walters.

Cathy was a dedicated educator with the Public Schools of Robeson County for many years and ended her career at East Robeson Primary School.  Creative and fun-loving, she enjoyed being in the classroom and cared for her students as if they were her own.

Devoted to and deeply loved by her family, she was happiest when at the heart of any gathering or celebration.  "Right in the middle of things" is where she wanted to be.  She had such a precious sense of humor and could make you laugh in any situation.  She loved nothing better than joking with or pranking someone, or as she would say, "cutting the fool!"

Cathy had a heart full of music and such a beautiful voice.  She was a very spiritual person and expressed her faith best when singing gospel music with her family.  Their harmony has to be heard to really be felt and believed!  So many good memories of her life and her light will be cherished forever.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Ray Foley; her siblings, Jeanette Floyd, Randolph Walters, Shirley Barbee and Linda Lawson; an infant brother, George Walters and an infant daughter, Deena Leigh Nobles.

Surviving are her three sons, Charles R. Nobles II (Stephanie), Carlton Ray "Mark" Foley, Jr. (Denise), all of Lumberton and Dr. Jonathan Foley (Wendy) of Dallas, TX; her siblings, Lance Walters of Conway, Eric Walters (Betty) of Orrum and Ada Ellis of Fair Bluff; six grandchildren, Charles R. "Trey" Nobles III (Hannah), Abigail Nobles Peavy (Nick), Luke Isaac Nobles, Dr. Carlton Auston Foley, Sierra Maelynn Foley and Johnathan Eran Foley and one great-grandson, Dalton Ray Peavy.

A time of visitation with family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 2:00-3:30PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street, Lumberton.
