Mrs. Catherine Smith Black, age 92, of Lumberton, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Wesley Pines Retirement Center in Lumberton, NC, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Johnston County, NC on October 19, 1927 to the late David Chester Smith and the late Mable Langdon Smith. She retired as a nurse for the State of Kentucky Health Dept.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Grady Black; four brothers: Alfred Easley Smith, Jessie Walter Smith, Donald P. Smith, Sr., and David Smith; five sisters: Bessie Margret Smith Bing, Eloise Smith Reynolds, Estelle Smith Overton, Camila Smith Dohan, and Mary Smith Steele; and a very special friend, George Salmon.

She is survived by her brother, James Robert Smith and wife Ann of Oak Grove, LA; a stepdaughter, Brenda Wayne Cox of Tulsa, OK; a nephew, Donnie Smith and wife Mona and their children, Anna Smith and Bradley Smith, all of Lumberton, NC; and a niece, Claudia Lane Holland and husband John and her son, Tyler Puge, all of Calhoun, LA. She also leaves behind special friends at Wesley Pines, Mrs. Pamela Renfrow and Amy Shooter.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Ruby Doub McMillan Fellowship Building of Wesley Pines, 1000 Wesley Pines Road in Lumberton, NC with Rev. Herbert Lowry and Rev. Harold Salmon officiating. Following the service, the family will visit with friends and loved ones.
