Iris Carlene Kinlaw Burns, 86, passed away November 24, 2016, Thanksgiving Day morning. Born October 15, 1930, in L umberton, NC, to Raymond Dwight Kinlaw and Velma Patterson Kin law.

S he is predeceased by husband John Robert Burns and daughter Susan Leigh Burns. She is survived by sons John Robert Burns, Jr., and Raymond Clegg Burns; daughters Beth Burns Ward (Ricky) and Sarah Kelly Burns (John Capps); grandchildren Ashley Burns Todd, Jonathan Clegg Burns, Matthew Steven McCray, Katherine Leigh McCray, Adam Richard Ward, Sarah Elizabeth Ward, and Rachel Ward Johnson; 3 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nephews, nieces, and sisters in law. An alumna of Meredith College and a teacher in Lumberton City and Robeson County Schools, Carlene was a lifelong member of Barker United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be held Monday, November 28, at 11a.m., at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Rev. Herbert Lowry, officiating, with visitation at the graveside.
