Mr. Robert "Bob" Crumpler, age 84, of Lumberton, passed away Friday, December 27, 2019, at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. He was surrounded by his wife and two daughters. He was born April 15, 1935 in Wayne County. He was owner-operator of Merrimac Music Co. in Lumberton and was a high school band director.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Crumpler and Onie Thomas Crumpler.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Anderson Crumpler; two daughters, Crystal Harper (David) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Ginger Kenny (David) of Kauai, HI; and one sister, Kathryn Jackson of Kure Beach, NC.

Bob was a lifelong musician, having received his Master of Music from East Carolina University. Described as a "great friend and great encourager", he shared his love of music with students of all ages as a high school band director, music store owner, and church choir director. He played in many different bands from Dixie Land Jazz to Symphony Orchestra and realized a childhood dream of playing trombone with a circus band.

He was a devoted member of Godwin Heights Baptist Church for 57 years and served as a deacon and Chairman of the Deacons, choir director, and Sunday School teacher of different ages, from children to senior citizens.

He was active throughout his life, completing several marathons and riding his bike long distances well into his seventies.

Bob's kind and loving disposition extended to animals. He and his wife rescued many needy dogs (often found while on one of his long bike rides) and cats, too. Any animal brought into their home was lucky and well-loved.

Most importantly, Bob Crumpler was a devoted and loving husband to his wife for 60 years, and he will be remembered by his daughters as the best Dad ever.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2020, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Godwin Heights Baptist Church, 704 Godwin Avenue in Lumberton. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
