Billy Ray Townsend, age 66, of Lumberton, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022.  He was born in Robeson County, NC on February 22, 1956 to the late Shelton Townsend and the late Mamie Warwick Townsend. Billy was previously employed with several mobile home dealers in the Robeson County area and most recently worked as a real estate broker for Coldwell Banker of Fayetteville. He was a talented musician and loved playing guitar and piano for his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert Townsend, Horace Townsend, and Kenneth Townsend.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Denise Tyner Townsend; his son, William Blake Townsend (Maureen) of Lumberton, NC; four sisters: Ruth Kissam of Evergreen, NC, Thelma Stone (Francis) of Lumberton, NC, Betty Leggett (Larry) of Rockingham, NC, and Carolyn Caulder (Ray) of of Lumberton, NC; and three grandchildren: Allyssa Blakelynn, William Brennan, and Phoenix Jase.

A time of visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 1:00-2:00PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Graham officiating.  Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to American Heart Association.
