Obituary

Beverly June Campbell, age 98, of Lumberton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the home of her daughter, Elsa Shaw, with whom she lived for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; sons, Ronald and David; parents, Ernest & Viola Airgood; brothers, Ernest Airgood and John Airgood; and sister, Shirley Marshall.

Bev was born in Williamsport, Pa. on August 16, 1926. Upon graduation from the former St. Mary's High School in Williamsport, Pa. Bev was employed as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone Co.

On May 3, 1946, Bev and Warren were married in Hagerstown, MD. Once the children began to arrive, Bev resigned from the work force to care for her family. In 1984, Bev was widowed and once again joined the work force finding joy in working the counter at Dunkin' Donuts, Newberry Bank, and Uni-Mart.

In the mid-90's, Bev and Elsa relocated to North Carolina where her eldest son, Bob, and his family lived. Bev began working at Walmart, where she held various positions until she was in her mid-80s. It became apparent that she finally was ready to enjoy some retirement years.

Bev was famous for her potato salad. Upon graduation from a Citizens Police Academy Class in Lumberton -- where her son-in-law, Terrence, was employed -- Bev and her fellow classmates wanted to continue their relationship with the officers. They would meet on a regular basis to provide meals for the officers. Bev's potato salad was always requested.

During her 98 years on earth, Bev witnessed first-hand many amazing things. She remembered going to the theater to view silent movies, horse delivering milk, she lived through The Great Depression, and vividly remembered the Great Flood of 1936. She remembered watching as Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon and when the news interrupted her afternoon soap opera to announce the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Surviving are her children: Bob Campbell of Leland, NC, Ray Campbell (Vicky) of Las Vegas, NV, and Cheryl Burnham, Jo Ann Tobias (Bob), of Williamsport, Pa., Elsa Shaw (Terrence), of Lumberton, NC. Bev also welcomed 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a daughter of her heart, Carla Ann Dobson of Ft. Myers, FL.

Services will be private at the request of her family.
