Betty Catherine West Penney, age 71, of Lumberton, NC passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. Cathy was born in Robeson County on September 5, 1953 to the late Ervin Johnson West and Betty Jean Pittman West, both Lumberton, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Brandon Everette Penney, and daughters, Rhonda Kinlaw and Melanie Penney.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Gary "Pete" Pope; son, Matthew Brian Hood and wife, Jenn; son, Lebron Land and wife Crystal; grandchildren: Brandi Lee Gonzales, Danny Logan Smith, Ashlynn Renee Hood, Matthew Brian Hood, Jr., Wesley Reed Hood, Logan Land, Jim Land, Cheyenne Land, and Dillon Land; a sister, Sandra Kay West Carnes (Steve Johnson) of Fayetteville, NC; a brother, Ervin Donald West of Lumberton, NC; a special niece, Paula Carnes Fairfax, of Hope Mills, NC, and great-nieces, Jordan McInroy Parker (Cole) of Stedman, NC and Gracie M. McInroy (Alex) of Cary, NC, and great-nephews, Grayson Brandon Fairfax and Carson Daniel Fairfax, both of Hope Mills, NC.

Cathy retired from Robeson Community College with over 25 years where she was a Cosmetology Instructor. Cathy was adored by her students, and she loved her work of helping and teachings others the art of what she loved.

Her favorite place was the beach. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She also loved working in her yard planting and tending to flowers. Cathy's favorite holiday was Christmas. Cathy loved gift-giving and the joy of being able to watch the looks on everyone's faces as she would search high and low to find the perfect gift, she knew you would love to have. And, if anyone extra came, would always have backup gifts for such circumstances.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 E. 5th Street, Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at West Cemetery, West Road in Lumberton, NC.
