Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" McLean Nye, age 89, of Lumberton, NC, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.  She was born in Robeson County, NC to the late Graham McLean and the late Ann Wilkinson McLean.

Betty was a fiercely independent lady and self-taught in a myriad of subjects. On one occasion, even fixing her own car mirror after watching a YouTube video. She worked tirelessly for Trinity Episcopal Church, whether it was working in the thrift store or serving her church members in need. A constant learner, she took classes to help streamline the law office of John Campbell, with whom she worked for sixty years.  She loved to spend time at the beach and was a steady practical jokester. She played high school basketball and was a die-hard UNC Tar Heel fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, English Troy Nye, Jr., and her sister, Jean McLean.

Betty is survived by her three children: Steven Nye (Linda) of Shelby, NC, Susan Lewis (Vince) of Wilmington, NC, and Elizabeth McKee (William) of Charlotte, NC; her brother, Graham Wilkinson McLean (Peggy Ann) of Lumberton, NC; two grandchildren, Stephen Lewis (Kellie) and Abbey McGranahan (Zeke); and two great-grandchildren, Blakely and Maverick.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 11:00AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1202 N. Chestnut Street in Lumberton, NC. A reception will follow the service in the parish house. Masks optional.
