Betty Baxley Newton, age 83, of Lumberton, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. She was born on January 16, 1930 in Bladen County to the late Walter Clayton Baxley and the late Beulah McLaughlin Baxley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Newton; daughter, Deborah Carter Davenport; son, Larry Newton and grandson, Jonathan Rhodes. Mrs. Newton is survived by two sons, Johnnie Newton and Jim Newton and his wife, Janet, all of Lumberton; two daughters, Karen Britt and her husband, Joey of Salisbury, NC and Beth Kinlaw and her husband, Billy of Lumberton; six grandchildren, Tracy Newton, Sean B. Davidson, Ginny Bray, Meagan Hendren, Holli Britt and Kristen Kinlaw; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bray and Luke and Logan Hendren and several sisters. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 7:00-9:00PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, 809 East 5th Street, Lumberton. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 2:00PM at East Lumberton Church of God with Dr. Bruce Brumfield and Rev. L.F. Hatchell officiating. Burial will follow at New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton.
