Betty Hicks Hyatt, 76, of Garner, passed away on July 13, 2026. Born August 17, 1949, in Sardis, SC, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rusty Hyatt.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Dr. Kandice van Beerschoten; Stephan, her son-in-law, whom she loved as a son; two grandchildren, Alex and Krista; her brother, Robert Hicks (Janelle); her sister, Jane Miley; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Prior to retirement, Betty served for more than twenty years as secretary at First Presbyterian Church of Lumberton, where she greeted everyone with a cheerful smile and was blessed with many wonderful friends throughout the years. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Lumberton.

After retiring, Betty moved to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, and spent the last five years of her life living with them — surrounded by family who loved her dearly.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Lumberton on Friday, July 17 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive guests after the service at the church.
