Obituary

Betty Thomas Fields left her earthly body on Monday, August 29, 2022, at Bethesda East Baptist Hospital in Boynton Beach, FL. Betty was born on December 21, 1939 in the small town of Friendsville, MD to the late Sally Irene Rhodes and Zenas Wilbur Thomas.

Later in her life, the family decided to move to North Carolina, where she remained for many years until she moved to Florida to spend her golden years. Betty lived a wonderful life in North Carolina raising three sons by excelling in the textile industry, working for many years for Burlington Industries. She later played a major role in the start-up of some local textile mills, Contempora Fabrics and Tri Tex Knits.

After a long stint in textiles, she made the move to the sunshine state of Florida to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She did this with ease as in everything else she set her mind to. She loved her career and excelled in the nursing field, working in many area hospitals and providing home care for the elderly.

When Betty decided to retire from nursing, she spent much of her time enjoying life with family and friends and taking cruises with her special friend and longtime companion, Mr. John Mandell. Betty loved her family and was always delighted to see them every chance she had.

Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Janet Thomas Jones and William Harrison "Billy" Thomas.

Leaving behind to cherish her precious memories are three loving sons: Charles Norman Prevatte, Mitchell Eugene Prevatte (Karen "Renee"), and Allan Dale Britt (special friend Tara); five special grandchildren: Crystal Prevatte, Jonathan Prevatte (Kristen), Tyler Britt, Lexi Britt, and Landon Britt; two very special great-grandchildren, Alex and Raena; and two loving brothers, James Wilbur "Jim" Thomas and Arthur Wayne Thomas (Maxine).

The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Godwin Heights Community Park, 1110 Mimosa Street in Lumberton, NC, with Rev. Wade Nealy officiating.
