Bessie Lee Locklear Hunt, age 78, of Rowland, NC passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 at UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton NC. Ms. Bessie was born April 23, 1945 in Robeson County to the late Jasper Locklear and the late Sarah Campbell Locklear.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hunt; a sister, Mary Mitchell; a son-in-law, Rusty Hamilton and a special friend since childhood, Essie Neal Leggett.

Ms. Bessie was a 1963 graduate of Fairgrove High School and Homecoming Queen her senior year. She was employed by the Robeson County school system and a life-long member of Dogwood Baptist Church. She loved cooking, shopping and front porch Sunday fellowship with her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Terry Oxendine (fiancé Peggy Carter) of Lumberton, NC; two daughters, Annette Hamilton of Dillon, SC and Celeste Hunt (Brent) of Pembroke, NC; two brothers, Joseph Locklear (Debbie) Coppers Cove, TX. and John Locklear (Lola) of Greenville, NC; three sisters, Myrtle Lewis of the home, Phyllis Oxendine (Vernon), and Betsy Jones (Jody) both of Rowland, NC; 8 grandchildren, Cassie Oxendine, Shane Oxendine, Jamie Hamilton, April Hamilton, Tonya Hamilton, Christy Hamilton, Tristan Hunt and Mahlea Hunt; 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; a special niece and nephew, Zenia Jo and Brian Locklear; her best friend since childhood, Fannie White (Chuck) of Rowland, NC, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 12, 2024 from 6:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Funeral Services, Inc 1549 Marion Stage Road, Fairmont, NC.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Dogwood Baptist Church 1417 Iona Church Road, Rowland, NC. Burial will follow in New Bethel Holiness Methodist Church Cemetery, 3854 Iona Church Road, Rowland, NC.
