Mrs. Bessie Braswell Harrington, 78, of Lumberton, NC, passed away in her sleep early Friday morning, December 17, 2021. She was born in Robeson County, NC on February 8, 1944 to the late Forest Samuel Braswell, Sr. and Eva Cook Braswell. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Harrington, on December 14, 1963.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Forest Samuel Braswell, Jr., and her in-laws, JT and Melba Harrington, all formerly of Lumberton.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jimmy Harrington; two daughters, Pam Harrington Buennemeyer and husband Jeff of Charlotte, NC and Sara Harrington Czagas and husband Charlie of Matthews, NC; four grandchildren: Dr. Devin B Mijares and husband Christian, Peyton M. Buennemeyer and wife Emma, Steven T. Czagas, and James M Czagas; one sister, Betty Campbell and husband Tom of Castaic, CA; four sisters-in-law: Jean H. Wall and husband Pat of Memphis, TN, Meg H. McLean and husband Malcolm of Lumberton, NC, Doris H. Carr and husband Charlie of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Malinda H. Summey and husband Bill of Blowing Rock, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Bess, as she was called by her family and friends, was involved in many activities in the church and community, from MYF leaders, Girl Scouting, Junior Women's Club of Lumberton, and her beloved Praise Team at CSUMC. She and her husband, Jimmy, owned and ran Harrington Oil Company for many years.

The family will be holding a memorial of Bess's life on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church, where she and her husband have been lifelong members.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorials be left in her name at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church of Lumberton or Community Homecare and Hospice of Lumberton.
