Obituary

Anthony Bruce "Tony" Simmons, age 67, of Lumberton, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026.  He was born in Robeson County, NC on November 12, 1958.  While his family grieves his loss, they also celebrate a life that was filled with laughter, love, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to those he held dear.

To know him was to know joy. He had an unmatched sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh. Whether sharing a quick-witted remark, telling a story, or playfully teasing family and friends, he could brighten any room and leave those around him smiling. His laughter was contagious, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness to everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.

A gifted athlete in his younger years, he excelled in virtually every sport he played, but basketball always held a special place in his heart. He loved the game, the camaraderie, and the competition, often visiting local gyms and neighborhood courts to join a pickup game whenever the opportunity arose. His passion for sports continued throughout his life as a devoted fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels, cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm.

Family was the foundation of his life. Following the passing of his father, he selflessly became a devoted caregiver to his beloved mother, providing her with compassionate care, unwavering support, and unconditional love. His dedication reflected the depth of his character and the strength of his heart.

He shared an extraordinary bond with his brothers and sisters, cherishing every moment spent together. As an uncle, he was deeply loved by his nieces and nephews, taking immense pride in each of their accomplishments and celebrating every milestone as if it were his own. His encouragement, humor, and unconditional love created memories they will treasure forever.

His compassion extended far beyond his own family. He had a genuine heart for those less fortunate and was always willing to offer kindness, encouragement, or a helping hand to someone in need. His generosity was quiet, sincere, and deeply felt by those whose lives he touched.

A talented songwriter and guitar player, he found joy in expressing himself through music, leaving behind lyrics and melodies that reflected his creativity, his experiences, and his love of life.

His legacy lives on through the laughter he inspired, the love he freely gave, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Simmons.
