Obituary

Mr. Anthony "Andy" Lee Davis, age 49, of Evergreen, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his home. He was born in Lumberton, NC on September 9, 1974 to the late Martin Luther "Doc" Davis, Sr. and Sybil McLamb Davis.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Denise Willoughby Davis of the home; his children: Isabella Marie Davis, Philip Paul Willoughby Davis, and Mason Elliott Willoughby Davis, all of the home; his brothers: Perry Davis (Tiffany) of Fairmont, NC, Martin Luther "Doc, Jr." Davis, Jr. (Vickie) of Lumberton, NC, and Ronnie Davis of Lumberton, NC; his sister, Gail Stevens (Mark) of Lumberton, NC; his brother-in-law, Elwood Smith of Calabash, NC; and his nieces and nephews: Landon Davis and Emerysn Davis, Sara Wilcox, Macie, Mathieu, and Michael Davis, Jimmy Smith (Jodi), and Crystal Smith. He also leaves behind a special friend, Jerry Wilkins, whom he considered as not only a friend, but one of his brothers and loved his family as his own as well.

Andy has always considered his family one of his greatest blessings and accomplishments. He has been with his wife, Denise, for 32 years and together they created their family of three children. Andy has passed on his passion for hunting and fishing to his son, Philip. He has passed down his love for old cars to his other son, Mason. Andy's knowledge and love for history, science, and music shines through his daughter, Isabella.

He was never a stranger to anyone, finding someone he knew everywhere he went or someone to talk to. He was always proud of his family's legacy of the family store and cafe, which his parents owned and operated during his childhood and early adulthood. He has always thought and told us that this era of his life had taught him everything he knew, more than any school or university ever has.

Andy also enjoyed helping and serving the surrounding counties during his nursing career. He always thought outside the box when his patients were in need and deeply cared for them. His last step in his career was working with soldiers at Womack Army Hospital at Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty). He would always bring home soldiers and take them under his wing. Some he mentored, and others became family. He cared deeply and loved these soldiers, showing them they had family close to base, as many were far from home.

He also took pride in his education and encouraged his children to do the same. Over the years, he has received many awards for his academics, including one from President George H. W. Bush in high school for his academic achievements in history. He was accepted into many universities, including UNC, Duke, and UNCP, and was appointed to West Point. He was very intelligent in everything he did and was always very wise. He attended UNC for a short period of time, after graduating Bladen Community College, before coming home to help his parents with the family business and attend UNCP. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with two degrees, a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Everyone who knew Andy knew how kind and caring he was, but they also knew he wasn't afraid to speak his mind. He would talk to anyone about anything. Help anyone he possibly could in need. Anyone who knew Andy knew how much he loved his family, his children being the topic of most conversations. He would always joke around and pick on his family and friends; it was his way of showing his love for us. Everyone knew he loved helping others, even if he didn't say it much.
