Myrtle Beach
Mrs. Annie Mae (Simmons) Edwards, 87, died Thursday November 4 at Portside at Grande Dunes Assisted Living community in Myrtle Beach, SC after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She is survived by her husband of over 70 years, Robert D. Edwards, who remained her devoted caregiver right until the end. Growing up neighbors and sweethearts from an early age in rural Robeson County, NC, they were lifelong companions, rarely apart, in a long and happy partnership.
Annie is also survived by her three children: Debbie Oliver (Mike) of Pawley's Island, SC, Cindy Smith (Mike) of Franklin, TN, and Steven Edwards (Tamara) of Huntersville, NC; five grandchildren: Nick Oliver (Liz) of Pawley's Island, SC, Kim Smith Alexander (Eric) of Madison, AL, Whitney Edwards Russell (Travis) of Vinton, VA, Jordan Edwards of Sanford, NC and Sarah Edwards Lancaster (Andrew) of Beaufort, SC; eight great-grandchildren: Frances Allaire and Agnes Oliver, Eli and Nate Alexander, Carter and Parker Russell, Collins Chaney and Ward Lancaster; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Annie enjoyed visiting with family, traveling with Robert, going to Church, gardening, her beloved pets (especially Angel and Princess), cooking for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a warm cup of coffee with a good book or magazine. Her friendly smile, infectious laugh and caring nature will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation is Tuesday November 9, 2021 from 10:30am to Noon at Floyd Funeral Services, 1549 Marion Stage Rd, Fairmont, NC. Funeral will be at Floyd's in Fairmont immediately following visitation at Noon with burial to follow at Floyd Memorial Cemetery located just across the street.
To honor the remarkable care Annie received from Regency SouthernCare Hospice of Murrells Inlet, in lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation in her memory by sending it to: 600 Garden City Connector, Suite A, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
