Mr. Alva Oxendine, Jr. age 81, of Fairmont passed away Monday, August 17, 2020 after an extended illness, at Southeastern Hospice House, Lumberton, NC gaining his angel wings.

He was born April 6, 1939 in Robeson County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Fannie Oxendine; a son, David; a brother, Franklin; a sister, Viler Jean and granddaughter Tina.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Betty of the home; a son Johnny Oxendine (wife Sue); a son Ricky Oxendine; a daughter, Angela Locklear  (husband Leander) of Lumberton; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Doc Oxendine of Baltimore, MD and Wheeler Oxendine of Red Springs; one sister, Polly Oxendine of Red Springs.

In addition to his immediate family, he leaves a host of many special nieces and nephews.

Before retirement, Alva was a subcontractor with Floyds Properties, Fayetteville, NC. He was a hard worker and took pride in his work. Those who worked with him knew that he was a man who wanted a job done right. He was also a big fan of racing. Everyone knew he was a diehard Dale Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed watching football, being a Redskins fan. He loved to vacation and spend time with family. Before becoming ill he enjoyed gardening and working in the yard.

A Graveside service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 3:00PM at the Chavis Family Cemetery on Marion Stage Rd. Fairmont with Rev. James Hunt officiating.
