Alton Edward
Blackmon
Nov 13, 1955 — Oct 31, 2023
Fayetteville
Alton E. Blackmon, 67, was known to a lot of people as "Big Al". He resided at 1805 Gilmore Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina, and he quietly passed away at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on October 31, 2023 at 06:36 a.m.
Alton was born on November 13, 1955 in Lumberton, North Carolina to Thomas Blackmon, Jr. and Beatrice Quick Blackmon that preceded him in death. Despite the fact he could be set in his ways, he had a heart of gold. Alton was very friendly to all that met him. Literally, he would give you the clothes off his back. That's how kind his heart was to so many people. Growing up there was so much fun and laughter with Alton playing with his five younger siblings, he would make everyday exciting playing different games together. However, in our house when all nine of the siblings were together, we shared so much love and happiness abounded. We cherished our time together with our parents.
Although school was not his thing and he quit while in the ninth grade, like our father, Alton's interest was in nature which he came to understand and love. Unlike the other brothers in the family he flourished and learned the importance of gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a great cook that loved cooking and grilling out. As a wanderer, he left home where he visited different states and cities. As he would start telling his stories they were funny and interesting which would keep you fixed as he told them sometimes ending with a big laugh making him a good storyteller. Everyone loved listening to his stories. Notwithstanding, he loved weightlifting. Throughout the years, he would lift weights until he was badly injured.
Throughout his life Alton would get married twice, in which both ended in a divorce. He didn't have children from either of his marriages but he had a son named Josh Sewell, and three grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his oldest brother, James T. Blackmon. Being the fourth of nine children, he is survived by five sisters and two brothers, Ernestine B. K. Maccari, Deborah A. Allen, Carolyn B. Cain, Marilyn B. Salabarria, Eric L. Blackmon, Ida L. Thompson, and Christopher K. Blackmon; and lots of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Alton always lived his life as if it was his last day.
